COMPLEX REGIONAL PAIN SYNDROME (CRPS)

What is Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS)?

Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) is a chronic pain condition that typically affects one limb, often after an injury or trauma, and can spread to other parts of the body if untreated. The pain is out of proportion to the severity of the initial injury and may worsen over time. CRPS is caused by a malfunction of the peripheral and central nervous system.

CRPS can significantly impact a person’s quality of life, making everyday tasks difficult and leading to emotional distress. Treatment for CRPS often involves a multidisciplinary approach, including medications, physical therapy, and psychological support. In some cases, more invasive treatments such as nerve blocks, infusions, or spinal cord stimulation may be considered.

While there is no cure for CRPS, early diagnosis and comprehensive treatment can help manage symptoms and improve function. It’s important for individuals with CRPS to work closely with a healthcare team to develop a personalized treatment plan and explore options for pain management and rehabilitation.
